So much for the Summer being rubbish for games…
Jul 27th
Usually this time of year I am sat around wondering where all the games are and wishing it was nearing Xmas so that there was something to play, but not this year! More like wishing I had more free time
Feel a bit like a kid at Xmas though at the moment, lots of games to play (as you can see from the growing list on the left of my blog) and also online browsing to see about upgrading my PC which is long overdue as I am getting fed up with fighting with my current PC to run games that come out now.
Mass Effect 2 and Starcraft 2 are both new additions to the list, both of which I am looking forward to getting stuck into, could really do with finishing Red Dead Redemption before hand though… *sigh*
Just hope I can clear this lot before the busy run up to Xmas!
Good games are like buses…
Jul 12th
You can never find one, then two turn up at once.
Or in my case, more than two. I know I shouldn’t complain as its Summer now so games are going to dry up like the UK’s water supplies! but I also need to find the time to play all these good games
I am hoping I am near the end of Darksiders, although its an excellent game so in a way I hope I’m not! Super Mario Galaxy 2 is somehow even better than the first in the series and gives my Wii some love at last, luckily this is the sort of game where you can do the odd levels here and there around other things… like the washing up etc..
Still need to get back into Red Dead Redemption, but I now also have Crackdown 2 to play… after I started this up last night I can see my urge to chase after those green orbs returning!
This probably wasn’t the best time for me to try and get back into playing Eve Online then, I will try and juggle them all… somehow… god only knows how
Bioshock 2, you know what they say about sequels…
May 10th
… they are never as good as the originals…
Well in most cases anyway, but Bioshock 2 sadly fits into this category. Now I loved the first game, I thought it had great atmosphere and a great little story with a good twist. I was worried that a second game wouldn’t be able to recreate the same package and it seems like I was correct.
First off you are now a Big Daddy, sounds cool right? Well it should be except you feel about as strong as a wet paper bag… I got around this by pretending I was a frail human being again, which worked for the most part until the story kept reminding me I was a Big Daddy.. Grrr.
I played the first Bioshock on the PC, so maybe the atmosphere was better through headphones but the 360 version seemed to lack any really… but again this could be a failing of using a TV’s speakers. I am sure the areas in the second game are smaller though but I could just be imagining it to find more problems… so onto the things I actually liked…
ermmm…
See this is the problem, I love the setting and I like the actual gameplay but a game like this lives on its story and atmosphere and the sequel just didn’t delivery this for me so it was a bit of a struggle to want to playthrough and finish. Maybe I will pick it up when it is mega cheap on PC on Steam one day and try again on PC, who knows.
Don’t get me wrong Bioshock 2 is an ‘OK’ game, just not as good as the first one in my opinion. Onto the next game I go…
I have finally finished Dragon Age: Origins
Apr 28th
Phew.. what a game! Around 50 hours of playtime and it’s finally finished though and it was one hell of a journey and one of the best games I have played for a long time.
In a world where developers think 8 hour games are decent it was nice to play a game that actually lasted and was better for being longer.
I spent a fair amount of time doing most of the side quests that came my way but still had a few more I could of done so I could of spent more time at it but wanted to get it finished. I went through the game as a dual wielding/archer rogue, with my dream team of Alistair (as my main tank), Shale (as second tank but, used as damage) and Wynne (as my healer) and much fun was had. I used a few of the other characters at various times but always came back to this selection as it worked well, although I do feel like I missed some fun by not using a proper full on damage mage… maybe on another playthrough…
For once I am not going to drone on about a game, if you like RPG’s then you will love this, I found it quite hard for the first few hours as I ran out of health potions quickly and this made fights difficult but once I had a proper healer in the group it became easier and more fun. More loot would of been nice to pimp out your group more but this is nit picking, I loved the game and will be picking up the expansion once I have cleared up the back log of games I have.

Dice have released the R7 client side patch for Bad Company 2 and also the R10 server side patch, the fixes are as follows.. (click the more button)
It’s been a while…
Apr 21st
Since I have posted a new blog entry and also since I have played a good RPG.
I have had a little bit of time off which has meant some game time at long last, this was mostly taken up by Dragon Age: Origins. Wow this game is good, at first I found it pretty hard but now I have a decent group going I am enjoying watching the story unfold.
Xfire informs me that I have played about 40 hours of the game so far, this seems like alot but I have so far managed to get the humans, elves and dwarfs all back on side in my bid to fight back against the darkspawn and any one else that stands in my way… Ok that sounds like I am playing a bit of a mega killer type character in the game but that’s not actually true. My Dalish Elf Rogue is master of both the bow and dual wield blades, he is trying to be a force for good and tries to give pretty much anyone a second chance… but if these people mess up again then they end up dead pretty quick!
No idea how much of the game is left to be honest but I have just been captured and am now stuck in jail in nothing but my pants….
Crysis 2 – The Wall trailer
Apr 9th
I quite enjoyed Crysis, it will be interesting to see how the second game holds up.
Easter!, or well it was…
Apr 7th
Well Easter has come and gone, I spent most of the Easter weekends with my two whirlwinds of joy that I call my kids so gaming was limited to a few hours but what I did play was…
Bioshock 2 (360) – Still trying to plod along with this, its still not captured me like the first game has although it is getting better as I finally get more abilities. The biggest gripe I have is that I am meant to be a Big Daddy yet I feel like a weed!! May aswell kept you as a normal guy tbh.
Dragon Age Origins (PC) – Now this I am having fun with, once I got my head around the combat tactics and my merry band’s skills I am finding fights alot easier than before. The game has alot of depth and the narrative is great, this is going to keep me going for a while to come I think. Shale the sarcastic golem I have on my team is always a good laugh.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PC) – Still playing the odd game, nearly rank 20 and have fully unlocked all assault and vehicle equipment. The other classes aren’t that far off. Still fun for the odd games, starting to want more maps though and a decent server browser!!
Flat Hunting – This real life game isn’t quite as fun, places either are not big enough or too pricey or not available when we need it! I shall win this if it kills me though, or I become homeless anyway *gulp* Still time though
Change of pace time
Mar 31st
Pretty busy at the moment, I only have a couple of months before I will be moving house so lots of Flat hunting is on the agenda (although we may have found somewhere we like now). This along with everything else that usually takes up time means a bit less gaming.
However, I have been playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 probably a little too much so I have eased off on this and moved onto playing both Bioshock 2 on the 360 and gone back to Dragon Age Origins on the PC. I got Dragon Age back in November of last year and started it then but then ended up side tracked with other games but I am glad I have gone back to it as I can see why people rate it so highly. I can see this taking up alot of time!
I have only played a couple of hours at most of Bioshock 2 and I am a little unsure on this, I loved the first game but this one seems to be a little slow to get going and considering you play a Big Daddy this time you don’t really feel tough enough….
